Monday, December 18, 2023 | 7 pm | Emmanuel United Church

Guest Soloists: Lesley Bouza – soprano | Lillian Brooks – mezzo-soprano | Joshua Wales – tenor | Graham Robinson – bass
Accompanied by: Ian Sadler on the organ, Paul Otway – trumpet, and Douglas Sutherland – trumpet, Stan Ewing – timpanist, and The Peterborough Children’s Chorus directed by Julie Deck & Anna Eidt.

Handel’s Messiah is beloved for too many reasons to count, but to name a few: the “Hallelujah” chorus, the tenor soloist singing “Comfort ye,” the agility of the choir with “All we like sheep have gone astray,” the trumpet and bass soloist interacting in spectacular fashion for “The trumpet shall sound,” the reassurance of “I know that my redeemer liveth” by the soprano soloist and the monumental concluding “Amen” chorus. Exactly one week before Christmas Day, and on a day of special significance for many in the choir, the Peterborough Singers led by Syd Birrell with Ian Sadler at the mighty Cassavant organ, plus guest trumpeters, timpanist and four superb Canadian soloists, bring you George Frideric Handel’s Messiah.
