On Saturday, November 28, the Peterborough Singers will present Yuletide Cheer, and probably to a packed house as the concert features the musical power couple Isabel Bayrakdarian (soprano) and Serouj Kradjian (composer and pianist). But even before that night, the Singers are anticipating singing through the newly commissioned piece “Ode to Isabel,” when Serouj and Isabel come to town for a rehearsal. The last-minute review of tricky passages is likely happening right now!

Of course there are other treats in store: Venabrass, the superb playing of organist Ian Sadler, some rousing carols (with soaring descants). Hear how the choir is responding to the challenge of learning such varied music in this video clip of chorister reflections. I’ll bet it’s both a privilege and a challenge to prepare a repertoire ranging from Armenian church music (sung in Armenian!) through to “Jingle Bells.”
