Yes. It’s true. Mozart never finished the Requiem mass which he started composing late in 1791 in Vienna. The piece had been commissioned by a count to commemorate the death of his wife earlier that year. Unfortunately, Mozart died on December 5th having completed the Introit, detailed drafts of the Kyrie, the Dies Irae, the Offertory, and the first 8 measures of the Lacrimosa. The rest was completed by Süssmayr and performed at a benefit concert for Mozart’s widow. Regardless, the work stands to this day as a culmination of Mozart’s genius. Peterborough Singers will perform the complete masterwork with Ian Sadler at the organ and four outstanding soloists. Those same musical forces will also share music from the Peterborough Singers’ summer 2025 cathedral tour to Durham, England. Traditional English Cathedral music includes various settings of the song of Mary, known as the Magnificat, and the prayer of Simeon, Nunc dimittis, as well as other anthems and psalms. Peterborough Singers are excited for you to hear some of these great selections along with Mozart’s Requiem.
