“It’s happy, it rocks, it’s about having fun!” That’s how Peterborough Singers’ artistic director Syd Birrell describes the music you’ll hear on Saturday, February 25 at Back In Full Swing. It’s a tribute to big band and jazz featuring music from the swing band era of the 1930s to contemporary songs — all united by swing.

“We’ve wanted to work with a big band for some time and swing provides that opportunity,” says Syd. “And to my great surprise, I discovered that many young people love this music.”

People of all ages will find much to enjoy about Back In Full Swing, from a swingin’ big band to our special guest, consummate entertainer Geoff Bemrose. Last year, on very short notice, Geoff stepped into the vocals and he was a hit.

“Geoff was spectacular,” recalls Syd. “And right there I knew we wanted him back as featured guest soloist. He has so many musical talents — he not only produces musicals, but he’s a regular performer in the Peterborough area and a teacher at Lakefield College School where he leads the Rock Choir. And he has a great voice.”

The Back In Full Swing band features Barry Haggarty (guitar), Andrew Affleck (bass guitar), Curtis Cronkwright (percussion), Pete Woolidge (keyboard), Lachy Baro (alto sax; flute), Mark Davidson (tenor sax), Doug Sutherland & Marlowe Bork (trumpets) and Kevin Cook & Bob Phillips (trombones).
