In 2013, the Ontario Arts Council kicked off its 50th anniversary, and we want to say congrats and many thanks.

As an organization, the Peterborough Singers has received crucial support from the OAC, support that has enabled the choir to move from “kitchen-table” operations to a more professional and sustainable model. In all, excluding the three-year Arts Investment Fund support, the OAC has granted the Singers $65,900 since the 1995-1996 fiscal year.

It is partly due to the OAC that the Singers has been able to offer exceptional choral music to this region; bring in world-class soloists, composers, and directors; and begin many innovative, community-oriented programs. Over the years, OAC funds have helped us to start sight-singing classes, offer educational workshops, and support, in our own right, emerging local artists working in dance and the visual arts as well as in music.

To celebrate this milestone, the OAC has circulated a wonderful anniversary video entitled Live Love Art. The 6-minute work documents the importance of the arts to human life and enterprise. We hope you will watch it and pass it on to friends, as a thanks you to the OAC and in recognition of all the organization has done to enrich our culture.
